My individual project is coming along, but I have the bulk of the coding to do.  I have to learn RS feeds, but I hope to find a web service or two to find the informaiton I need.  I have to find mortgage rate information, and some market indices.  We'll see how it goes, but I feel more comfortable with the end of the semester than I did a week or two ago.

I've been plugging away on my project.  It seems to be shaping up to be somewhat challenging on the backend coding, rather than the UI up front.  Its a mortgage rate tracker, with notifications when certain rates hit a user-defined target..  I'll have to hunke rdown and work out the coding here this weekend.

My wife, daughter and just booked a trip to Puerto Rico the day after my last final!  We're really looking forward to it.  We need it badly, really missing the sun, although we have seen a bit of it here lately.  Ten days of relaxing sun and fun.  Can't wait!

Hello,

With this class and my other one, things seem to be heating up now from a homework and time needed apart from lecture standpoint.  The next couple of weeks are going to be a bit of a push.  I do look forward to the remote application project, though.  Even thought it wil lhave its challenges, I think it will be pretty nifty to program something that'll work the way you want it to for the application we've chosen.

Also, I'm waiting for the dates to come out for registering for Summer and Fall.  It always feels like progress to sign up for the next requirement or elective; another step closer to graduation.

Hi,

I guess I was hoping that Unified Communications was a more elegant idea than just glorified forwarding.  Somehow, I thought it would be more futuristic, with one personal device and effortless communications, where someone could reach you wherever you are, but only under one "number".  Oh well, I uess the age of the Jetsons will have to wait.

Here's a URL to a youtube video of Nortel's pitch, similar to the one you may have seen as a commercial.  Sounds like a bunch of consultants running around for now....

Hi all,

I think I did the instructions correctly for the icon piece of Lab#2, but I don't see any result yet from setting up the icon.  Does anyone know if we shouldn't expect to see it on the emulator until we complete steps 5-7?

Thanks,

Brett

I seem to be on my way with Assignment 1.  I do have some experience programming in Visual Basic for Applications, and that helps me with Visual Studio 2005.  My assignment deliverable is rather simplistic, but I have to trust that is best for a user interface, keep it simple.  I think less is more in this case.  I look forward to programming the UI this week.  It'll be tempting to add in some other little bells and whistles, but we'll have to see if I have the time or energy.

Hello,

Well, it looks like I may be able to (have to) get a laptop after all.  I found some links form the University on their recommended hardware...

https://www4.uwm.edu/uits/purchasing/hardware/personal/recommendations/

Also they have alink to their resource CD...

Does anyone have any advice for which edition of Windows Vista to purchase?  I'm not just using this laptop for school, but hopefully to network with my wife's desktop PC at her boutique, and run some back office Quick Books programs.  Should I go for the Business edition just to ge tthe netowrk piece?  Do I have to?

Oh, and my baby daughter just had her 1st birthday!  Here's recent picture:
